Route: Urgench – Khiva – Bukhara – Samarkand This 8-day circuit is the perfect itinerary for a first discovery of Uzbekistan. In just one week, you will visit the three legendary Silk Road cities — Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand — each inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, each with a unique personality of its own. From the labyrinthine alleyways of Khiva, an open-air museum city on the banks of the Amu Darya, to the majesty of Bukhara the Noble with its 360 mosques, and on to the dazzling Registan Square in Samarkand, this journey is an immersion into a thousand years of Eastern civilisation. Between the cities, the crossing of the Kyzylkum Desert adds a touch of adventure and complete change of scenery. Practical Information 👟 Fitness Level: Accessible to all, no particular physical requirement. This is a cultural circuit with moderate walking during city visits. Bring comfortable shoes for the cobblestones of the old towns. 🌡️ Climate: Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons, with pleasant temperatures (15–30°C / 59–86°F). Summer (June–August) can be very hot (35–45°C / 95–113°F). Samarkand is at 700 m altitude, with cooler evenings. Pack a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. 🚐 Transfers: All transfers are by private air-conditioned vehicle. The longest day is Day 3 (Khiva–Bukhara, 480 km, approximately 7 hours' drive) with the Kyzylkum Desert crossing — an experience in itself. 🍽️ Meals: Only breakfasts are included. Lunches and dinners are at leisure, allowing you to discover Uzbek cuisine at your own pace: plov (pilaf rice), shashlik (kebabs), lagman (noodle soup), somsa (stuffed pastries), and many more delights. Itinerary (8 days)
Arrival at Urgench Airport. Welcome by your English-speaking guide and driver. Transfer to Khiva (25 km), the former capital of the Khorezm Khanate. Check-in at the hotel, a historic caravanserai converted into a boutique hotel in the heart of the old town. Breakfast and time to rest. First discovery of Khiva, a veritable open-air museum city that has preserved its authentic charm for a millennium. The itinerary begins with Itchan Kala, the inner walled city inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Visit the Kunya-Ark Citadel, the former residence of the Khans of Khiva, with its reception hall adorned with white and blue majolica tiles and finely carved doors. Discover the Djuma Mosque and its 218 sculpted wooden columns, some dating back to the 10th century. Visit the Mausoleum of Pakhlavan Mahmud, an important pilgrimage site, adorned with strikingly beautiful majolica. Discover the Islam Khodja complex with its minaret — the tallest in Khiva — and Tash-Khauli Palace, a jewel of Khorezmian civil architecture. Guided tour until 3:00 PM, then free time to wander through the old town’s alleyways at your own pace. Breakfast included. Lunch and dinner at leisure. Overnight at hotel in Khiva.

Un viaggio meraviglioso lungo la Via della Seta! In soli 8 giorni abbiamo visitato i tre gioielli dell'Uzbekistan — Khiva, Bukhara e Samarcanda — e ogni città ha la sua anima unica. Khiva è come entrare in una fiaba delle Mille e una Notte: alloggiare in un caravanserraglio storico nel cuore dell'Itchan Kala è stata un'esperienza indimenticabile. La Moschea Djuma con le sue 218 colonne di legno scolpito mi ha lasciato senza parole. Bukhara, con i suoi 360 minareti, le madrase e l'incantevole piazza Lyab-i Hauz all'ombra dei gelsi secolari, ha un'atmosfera fuori dal tempo. Ma il momento culminante è stata Samarcanda: il Registan al tramonto è semplicemente uno degli spettacoli più mozzafiato che abbia mai visto, con le sue cupole turchesi e i mosaici dorati. Anche il mausoleo Gur-e-Amir di Tamerlano e la necropoli di Shah-i-Zinda sono straordinari. La traversata del deserto del Kyzylkum tra Khiva e Bukhara aggiunge un tocco di avventura al viaggio. La nostra guida parlava un inglese perfetto, era preparatissima e molto disponibile. Hotel confortevoli, organizzazione impeccabile.
